Archived: Women’s Hockey Comes Up Winless at Ohio State

After failing to notch a goal last weekend against #3 Minnesota, it didn’t take the St. Cloud State Women’s Hockey team long to find the back of the net this weekend in its matchup with Ohio State. Captain Jocelyn Zabrick scored only 1:20 into the contest Friday, but the Huskies came out on the wrong end of both games in the series by a pair of 5-1 scores.

Playing their fifth straight game on the road, St. Cloud jumped out early in the first game on Zabrick’s second goal of the season. The St. Cloud captain took a pass from Brittany Toor and beat OSU goalie Lisa Steffes to put SCSU up 1-0. Toor picked up her team leading fourth point with the assist.

After that, it was all Ohio State. The Bucs rallied for five straight goals on senior goalie Tayler VanDenakker who finished with 43 saves. St. Cloud was outshot 48-17 in the loss.

Saturday saw the Huskies fall to OSU by the same score. First-Year Audrey Hanmer scored her first collegiate goal and notched the Huskies lone score late in the game.

With the losses, SCSU now sits at 1-5 on the season and 0-4 in WCHA play. They’ll head to Bemidji State this weekend for two more on the road. Friday and Saturday’s games will both start at 2:07 pm. The Huskies finally come home for a pair of games versus Robert Morris on Oct 28-29 after starting with eight straight games away from National Hockey Center.
