Archived: Women’s Hockey Drops Pair of 3-1 contests to BSU

The St. Cloud State Women’s Hockey team continues to play its opponents tough, but the end result remains the same. Still looking for their first regulation win, the Huskies dropped a pair of 3-1 games to the Bemidji State Beavers of Friday and Saturday at National Hockey Center. With the losses, the squad falls to 0-20-1 on the season.

Friday saw St. Cloud State get a goal from sophomore forward Haylea Schmid to tie the game at one midway through the second period. The goal was the second of Schmid’s career. However, the deadlock did not last long as BSU’s Erin Johnson scored just over three minutes later and Anne Bauerfeld added an insurance goal in the third.

Saturday’s game saw BSU jump on top 2-0 after two periods of play but the Huskies continued battling as freshmen Julia Gilbert scored in the third period to cut the lead to one. However it was too little too late for St. Cloud as Bemidji scored again to sink the Huskies.

SCSU will head on the road to Madison, Wisconsin for a two game series with the #2 Wisconsin Badgers. Puck drop is slated for 7:07 Friday and 2:07 Sunday. Follow twitter.com/KVSCHockey for updates on this series.
