Archived: Women’s Hockey Earns Tie in Trip to Niagara

The St. Cloud State Women’s Hockey team was hoping to make a splash this weekend with their trip to Niagara Falls. The Huskies took on the Purple Eagles from Niagara University, and fell 5-1 on Friday and skated to a 2-2 tie Saturday.

Sophomore Molli Mott scored the lone goal for the Huskies in Friday’s loss. The game was tied through two periods of play, but Niagara rattled off four straight goals in the third period en route to the win.

Saturday saw the Huskies trailing 1-0 heading into the game’s final frame, before Mott tallied her team leading sixth goal to even the score. Junior Callie Dahl broke the deadlock with her second goal of the season shortly after to give the Huskies the lead. However, Niagara rallied to tie the game with under a minute remaining, and the teams skated to a 2-2 draw.

The Huskies are now 1-11-2 on the season. The squad will travel to Wisconsin this weekend to take on the top-rated Badgers. The puck will drop at 2:07 Friday and Sunday, and our Zack Fisch will have the call on the KVSC Sports Stream.
