Archived: Women’s Hockey Falls 8-1, 7-0 to #2 Minnesota

The St. Cloud State Women’s Hockey team dropped a pair of games this weekend to the #2 Minnesota Golden Gophers by scores of 8-1, and 7-0 from the National Hockey Center. With the losses, the Huskies have dropped its last six games.

For the second straight weekend, junior Alex Nelson had the lone goal of the series for the Huskies. Nelson started the weekend on a positive note with a goal just :52 seconds into Friday’s game to put the Huskies up 1-0. After that point, it was all Minnesota en route to the sweep. Julie Friend was got the start in goal for SCSU both night and played strong despite the losses. Third-string goalie Anna Donlan made her second career appearance as she relieved Friend for the final four minutes of Friday’s game and stopped two shots.

St. Cloud is now 5-23-2 overall and in seventh place in the WCHA with a 4-20-0 record. The Huskies continue their season at home this weekend with a series versus #1 Wisconsin. Puck drop is 7:07 Friday and 2:07 Saturday.
