Archived: Women’s Hockey makes History

For the first time in history, the St. Cloud State women’s hockey team swept the No. 2 ranked University of Minnesota this weekend in a home and home series.

Friday night the Huskies got goals from Kylie Lane, the first of her young career, and Felicia Nelson in regulation. Nelson and fellow senior Holly Roberts scored in the shootout to lead the Husky win. Senior forward Meaghan Pezon assisted on both goals as she continues her strong season. It was another strong game in net for junior netminder Ashley Nixon as she stopped 35 shots on the evening for the win.

Saturday was the Holly Roberts show as the St. Cloud native had 3 goals and 3 assists in a 6-3 Husky victory. Roberts tied the school record for most points in a game, set by Roxy Stang in 2004, and is also tied for Stang second place in career points all time with 119. Nixon had another solid game in net as she stopped 45 of 48 Gopher shots.

SCSU is now tied for third place in the WCHA with 29 points. The Huskies will travel to Columbus, Ohio this weekend to take on The Ohio State University in the final series of the regular season.
