Archived: Women’s Hockey Signs Brodt, Fitzgerald

The St. Cloud State Women’s Hockey team is looking to get back in the top half of the WCHA in the near future, and the squad signed two players that they hope will continue to brighten their future. The Huskies announced Tuesday they had inked forward Hanna Brodt of Roseville and goaltender Katie Fitzgerald of Des Plaines, Illinois to National Letters of Intent.

Brodt is the daughter of former men’s hockey player Vic Brodt who skated for the Huskies from 1986-90. She is the captain at Roseville High School and helped the team to a State Tournament championship in 2010 and has participated in USA Development Camps the last three years. Last season she tallied 12 goals and 22 assists for 34 points for Roseville.

Fitzgerald is a product of the Chicago Mission AAA Hockey Club. Last season she posted a goals against average of 0.83 and a save percentage of .935 while going 5-2-1 with four shutouts. Her team earned the silver medal at the U-16 USA Hockey National Championship.

Both Brodt and Fitzgerald are seniors in high school and expected to join the Huskies next season. The Women’s Hockey team is currently 1-10-1 on the season and travels to Niagara this weekend in non-conference play.
