Archived: Women’s Hockey Signs Three

New talent is coming to the St. Cloud State Women’s Hockey team. Head coach Jeff Giesen announced earlier this week the signing of three players to National Letters of Intent. Joining the Huskies next season are defenseman Skye Kelly from Manitoba, forward Vanessa Spataro from Ontatio, and defenseman Ivy Smith from Rice Lake, Wisconsin.

-Kelly, who stands at 5 foot 7, notched 24 points from the blueline this past season for Balmoral Hall School in Manitoba and was a First-Team All-Star.

-Spataro is a 5 foot 5 forward who played for the 2011 league champion Toronto Jr. Aeros.

– Smith is a defenseman with good size at 5 foot 9 who just finished her prep carrer at Rice Lake where she was team captain.

The three join an incoming class that includes Ms. Hockey Finalist Hanna Brodt, a forward from Roseville, and talented goaltender Katie Fitzgerald from the Chicago Mission. SCSU may also be adding a player via transfer, but that is not official yet.
