Archived: Women’s Hockey Splits with Badgers
Junior goaltender Ashley Nixon had the series of her life, Meaghan Pezon scored two goals and Caitlin Hogan moved up to 99 career points as the Huskies split with the sixth-ranked Wisconsin Badgers this past weekend at the National Hockey Center. Game one between the two teams saw Nixon make 39 saves and Hogan would score the lone goal for SCSU, but they fell to the Badgers 2-1. First year forward Breann Frykas charted the game winner for Wisconsin.
Game two saw the third most saves ever made by a Husky goaltender in a game and Pezon taking the scoring into her own hands late as the Huskies upset Wisconsin 4-2. Nixon’s 54 saves are a career high and Pezon scored her sixth and seventh goals of the season in the third period. This win was also the first time SCSU has won this season when they have failed to score first.
The Huskies will travel out east this weekend to take on Brown University on Friday and Saturday as Caitlin Hogan looks to become only the second player in SCSU women’s hockey history to eclipse the 100 career point mark.
