Archived: Women’s Hockey Splits with OSU

For the first time in WCHA women’s hockey history, a team other than Minnesota, Wisconsin and Minnesota Duluth has finished in the top three in the final WCHA standings, that team is the St. Cloud State Huskies.

SCSU took 3 of 4 points out of their weekend series against Ohio State and finished in 3rd place in the conference with 32 points, one point ahead of fourth place Wisconsin. On Friday night the Huskies got a goal and an assist from the nation’s leading goal scorer Felicia Nelson and three assists from Meaghan Pezon in a 3-2 come from behind win.

Saturday the Buckeyes made a comeback of their own, tying the game at 4 with under a minute left in regulation. The teams would skate a scoreless overtime so the contest went to a shootout and it was OSU prevailing and getting the extra point with the shootout victory.

SCSU will take on Bemidji State this weekend at the National Hockey Center in the first round of the WCHA playoffs. The best of three series kicks off with game one Friday at 7:07. All games can be heard on 88.1 FM KVSC and online at kvsc.org. Pregame will start at 6:40.
