Archived: Women’s Hockey Swept by #3 Minnesota

After picking up a win a week ago, this past weekend provided no such luck for the St. Cloud State Women’s hockey team. The squad opened WCHA play with a pair of games at Minnesota, and the Huskies were handled easily by the #3 Golden Gophers, who beat SCSU 6-0 Friday, and 8-0 Saturday from Ridder Arena in Minneapolis.

The Huskies were outshot on the weekend by a grand total of 109-26. Senior goalie Tayler VanDenakker stopped 53 shots on Friday, and turned aside 24 more in relief of freshman Julie Friend on Saturday. Amanda Kessel has five goals on the weekend for Minnesota.

The Huskies look to get back on track with a road series this weekend at Ohio State. Puck drop is slated for 6:07 Friday and 3:07 Saturday. We’ll have updates on the games via our Twitter page- you can stay informed by following @KVSCHockey.
