WWII Vet to be Honored in Waite Park Today

A former French Consul General from Chicago will be honored in Waite Park today for his role in the liberation of France during WWII.

Boyd Sorenson will be given the Legion D’Honneur this afternoon by Guillaume Lacroix, the Consul General of France to the Midwest Region.

Sorenson originally enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 and was transferred to the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1943 as a fighter pilot. He flew in a total of 89 missions in the European Theater during WWII as well as 72 more missions during the Korean War. He has received several medals for his service in France and Europe during WWII.
