Crush Fall To Cardinals 3-1

Brian Moos / Sports Director

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Even with an outstanding performance from junior goalie Jordan Bovy, who finished with 34 saves, the St. Cloud Crush couldn’t defeat the Alexandria Cardinals. The Crush would fall 3-1, getting outshot 37-15.

Alexandria would strike first, as junior defender Teagan Cullen would score with traffic in front of Bovy. The Crush responded with a beauty of a goal from freshman defender Reeghan Stevens. Stevens has impressed to start the season and it continued Thursday.

The second period would see the Cardinals regain their lead. Sophomore forward Emma Bassen deflected a long shot past Bovy to make it 2-1 on the powerplay. No scoring would happen to finish the frame, but the Crush were held in their own zone for long stretches by Alexandria.

St. Cloud would perform better offensively in the third, getting high-quality chances on Alexandria senior goalie Victoria Meyers. As the Crush kept chipping away, they got their first powerplay of the game with under two minutes to go in regulation. The Crush emptied their net and skated six on four. The Cardinals would score on the empty net from their own zone less than 30 seconds into the penalty, icing the game at 3-1 from sophomore forward Maya Dutton.
