Men’s Hockey Splits With Omaha.

The St. Cloud State men’s hockey is now 3-1 in 2026 after splitting their weekend series with the University of Nebraska Omaha Mavericks.  Barrett Hall was outstanding for SCSU scoring one goal in each game.

Friday saw the Huskies get out to a 2-0 lead in the first period with goals from Barrett Hall and Gavyn Thoreson.  The Mavericks stormed back by scoring four straight goals to take a 4-2 lead after two periods.  They added another goal on the powerplay early in the third period and with just under eight minutes remaining, SCSU pulled their goaltender. Omaha capitalized by scoring an empty net goal and moved on to defeat SCSU 6-2.

In Saturday’s game St. Cloud State spent 16 minutes on the penalty kill due to 8 penalties.  After the first period ended with no score, Omaha’s Samuel Huo scored the first goal of the game in  the second.  Shortly after, SCSU’s Ethan AuCoin netted his first goal of the year and the score was tied 1-1 after two periods of play.  In the third period, Barrett Hall scored the game winning goal on the powerplay to help the Huskies split the series with the Mavericks.

Women’s Hockey Swept by Ohio State

The Husky women’s hockey team dropped to 7-14-1 on the season after being swept by Ohio State over the weekend.  Junior Sofianna Sundelin scored her ninth goal of the year while Payton Holloway and Julianne Labbe earned assists.

Friday’s game was dominated by Ohio State who shutout SCSU 4-0.  Four separate The Buckeyes put 39 shots on goal and four separate players scored goals.   After scoring one goal in each of the first two periods, the Buckeyes headed into the third period with a 2-0 lead.  Two more goals in the third period handed the Huskies their second shutout of the season.

On Saturday the Huskies got on the board first.  Sofianna Sundelin scored a powerplay goal at the 7:16 mark of the first period.   SCSU led 1-0 after one period of play but things changed in the second.  A powerplay goal from OSU’s Mira Jungaker tied the game up halfway through the second period.  Kaia Malachino and Maxime Cimoroni each added goals in the second to give Ohio State a 3-1 lead after 2 periods.  The Buckeyes netted another goal in the third period and added an empty netter to defeat SCSU 5-1.
