The Untold Story of Nimco Yasin and her visit to Minnesota
In this internationally rooted Untold Stories of Central Minnesota, Arts & Cultural Heritage Producer Jeff Carmack welcomes the world renowned Somali performer Nimco Yasin into the studio with local artist-in-residence from the Cedar Cultural Center Dalmar Yare to discuss her life and artistic journey spanning back to the 1980s before the Somali civil war. With millions of fans watching her every video on YouTube, Nimco’s message of peace and unity transcends the violence of a world which has scattered her people, many into the St. Cloud area where she was able to reunite with long lost friends during her visit. Nimco was in town performing at the Paramount Theater in April 2017 as part of a residency partnership between SCSU, the Paramount, and the Cedar Cultural Center.
