Archived: Understanding The 1862 Dakota War

On August 17, 1862 a group of four young Dakota men on a hunting expedition killed five settlers who lived along the Minnesota river in what is now southwest Minnesota… and a war began. August 2012 marked the 150th anniversary of this historical conflict.

KVSC 88.1 FM and Ampers presents "A Clash of Culture: Understanding The 1862 Dakota War" in a special one-hour radio feature and downloadable podcast. The feature is also divided into three minute segments available here

St. Cloud State University History Professor Mary Wingerd, Mankato-State University English Professor Gwen Westerman and alumnus Dean Urdahl are among many sources in this in-depth analysis of a conflict that is still felt by many today.
