KVSC Celebrates Minnesota Music Day Oct. 17

mnmusicday2011_fbprofile.pngOct. 6, 2011, St. Cloud, Minn. – KVSC 88.1 FM continues its tradition of supporting local artists by presenting its annual Minnesota Music Day. On October 17, from 6 a.m. – midnight, KVSC will broadcast only Minnesota music. Minnesota Music Day pays tribute to the hundreds of musicians with Minnesota roots.

All regular programming will be pre-empted to meet the day’s commitment to homegrown music. KVSC’s library has about 20,000 songs by Minnesota artists on both vinyl records and CDs. The station will play more than 200 songs by Minnesota artists throughout the day.

The day will include three live performances. The St. Cloud duo of Adam Hammer and Dave Cofell perform live from 12:15-1 p.m. Minneapolis-based Pert Near Sandstone will perform live from the KVSC studios during the “Diversions” show which runs from 5-7 p.m. A third and final live performance will take place during “Monday Night Live” as the Minneapolis Americana group Turn Back Now performs for one hour beginning at 10 p.m. That performance will also be available on UTVS-TV, channel 21 and can also be seen on www.utvs.com.

While the works of artists like Bob Dylan and Prince put Minnesota music on the map, their work also helped pave the way for acts like The Jayhawks and Atmosphere, among hundreds of others.

KVSC has always supported local music. Every Monday from 7-10 p.m., 88.1 FM airs a show called The Area with venerable host John Drake, which exclusively plays Minnesota music.

KVSC 88.1 FM is St. Cloud’s only educational public radio station. Its studios and offices overlook the banks of the Mississippi in Stewart Hall on the campus of St. Cloud State University. The station is operated primarily by volunteers and SCSU students and is a member of AMPERS, diverse radio for Minnesota’s communities. Visit www.kvsc.org for more information.
