KVSC Presents “Express Yourself” with Guante and Tish Jones

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – KVSC presents Express Yourself, a night of spoken word and open mic with Guante and Tish Jones, two of Minnesota’s top artists that speak to social justice and challenge the audience to engage in thought provoking ways. The pair will address the changes in our nation’s narrative, alongside the disconnect that happens when people only connect via social media. The event is free and open to students and the community.

Express Yourself will take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22 in the Atwood Memorial Center’s Quarry room on the St. Cloud State University campus. Individuals interested in participating in open mic can sign up in advance by emailing their name and contact information to info@kvsc.org or sign up before the event at 6:30 p.m. Parking is recommended in the 4th Avenue ramp, university pay lots and city streets.

Kyle “Guante” Tran Myhre is an MC, two-time National Poetry Slam champion, activist and educator based in Minneapolis. His work explores the relationships between identity, power and resistance, and has been featured on Upworthy, Welcome to Night Vale, Everyday Feminism, BBC Radio 6 Music, MSNBC, and the Huffington Post.

A poet, activist, educator and emcee, Tish Jones speaks to communities about controversial topics through her lyrical art. Inspired at an early age, her love of people and her pursuit of truth have made her a vital part of the Minneapolis arts scene. Over the years, her name has become synonymous with leadership, community and authenticity.

This event is funded by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Legacy Fund, as passed by Minnesota voters in November 2008.
