KVSC Receives Six Minnesota Assoicated Press Broadcast Awards for 2014 Competition

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Six broadcasters from St. Cloud State’s student-run radio station 88.1 FM KVSC earned 2014 Minnesota Associated Press Broadcasters awards April 10.
Students competed against professional commercial and non-commercial stations with two or more full-time news and sports staff.

“This is a tremendous achievement for KVSC’s student journalists,” said Jo McMullen-Boyer, station manager.

Awards included:
• Korina Borash, Esko, first place, Documentary/Investigative – “Genocide Awareness Project.”
• Declan Goff, St. Paul, first place, Sports Reporting – “Husky Sports Friday on KVSC.”
• Declan Goff, Jeremiah Graves, Bemidji, first place, Sports Play-by-Play – “SCSU Men’s Hockey #6 vs #1 Univ. of MN 10/31/14.”
• Daniel Papp, Zach Fuchs, St. Cloud, honorable mention, Sports Play-by-Play – “SCSU Women’s Basketball vs Northern State 12/13/14.”
• Daniel Papp, Osseo, honorable mention, Sports Reporting – “SCSU Women’s Basketball 2014 Season Preview.”
• Vicki Ikeogu, Cold Spring, honorable mention, Series/Special – “World War II Flying Fortress Makes Stop at St. Cloud Regional Airport.”

“When student news and sports journalists win awards in competition with professional newsrooms it speaks to the skills and journalistic practices they are learning and applying at KVSC Radio and are taught in the mass communications program,” McMullen-Boyer said.
