ST. CLOUD, Minn. – This fall brings in the nineteenth season of Monday Night Live (MNL) and is packed with surprises including a special on-location episode from the Pioneer Place, the return of Dana Johnson as program host and a newly designed logo. St. Cloud artist Dustin Thomas is slated to kickoff the fall lineup September 13. MNL broadcasts live from the KVSC performance studio at 10 p.m. on Mondays and can be heard at KVSC 88.1FM or online at www.kvsc.org.

As expected, the MNL fall lineup has musicians from a wide spectrum of genres. Two acts fulfilling that expectation are the alternative hip-hop groups More Than Lights and Kanser. In a special two-hour edition of MNL, the show goes on-location to broadcast live from the Pioneer Place in downtown St. Cloud. The on-location broadcast is set for November 1 at a special time from 8-10 p.m.

DSC_0060small_web.jpg“We want to maintain the energy of the live audience in addition to the audience that is tuning in over the airwaves,” said Dana Johnson, host and booking coordinator of MNL. “Therefore, the show will be two hours long and not have the traditional format of Monday Night Live.”

More Than Lights and Kanser are not your traditional hip-hop groups either. More Than Lights dish out energetic performances and a funky hip-hop style that has brought them to venues across Minnesota and surrounding states, drawing large crowds along the way.

Kanser features two members from More Than Lights and are every bit as energetic as their counterparts have proven. Both groups provide a tasteful blend of hip-hop, funk, rock and reggae to create a sound unlike anything else.

“More Than Lights and Kanser are alternative hip-hop at it’s finest,” Johnson said. “They incorporate so many musical influences and styles it’s really hard to label, but essentially they are independent hip-hop artists just making the music that they love.”

The nineteenth season is complete with a newly designed logo by St. Cloud State University graphic design student Brittany Rodgers. MNL is simulcast on UTVS on cable channel 21. The new MNL logo can be seen on the walls of the KVSC performance studio.

The MNL production is completely student run and produced. To check out the MNL lineup or discover other KVSC programming, visit www.kvsc.org.
