St. Cloud Mayor’s Office affirms commitment to public safety amidst community concern of ICE activity

ST. CLOUD, Minn. — Mayor Jake Anderson has released a statement reaffirming the city’s commitment to public safety amidst the high tension surrounding ICE activity in Minnesota.
Mayor Anderson wrote in the media release that the city has not received any formal notifications, directives, or coordination requests from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as of Jan. 9, 2026.
The City of St. Cloud operates under a Community Policing Agreement. Under this agreement, the St. Cloud Police Department does not carry out immigration enforcement or act as an agent for federal immigration authorities.
Anderson wrote in the release that the city’s law enforcement role is to “prioritize public safety, protect constitutional rights, and ensure peaceful community participation in civic life,” according to the media release.
In all circumstances, Anderson wrote that the city’s law enforecement priorites are to protect the safety and rights of all community members and ensuring that all protests and counter-protests do not escalate to violence or intefere with lawful public safety operations.
