Archived: Atwood Rennovation Proposal Voted Down

Students at St. Cloud State University said no to renovations of the Atwood Memorial Center but said yes to a local Director of Veterans Services in a referendum vote last week. The ballot also consisted of ten at large Senator positions along with the three referendum topics. More than 1,600 student votes were cast in the election.

The proposed Atwood Memorial Center renovation was the largest referendum topic, which would have increased student fees by $4.20 per credit up to 12 credits per semester. That renovation was voted down by students for the second consecutive year with 55% of students voting no compared to 42% voting in favor of the renovation.

The Veteran’s Resource Center will now have a Director or Managed Area funded by student activity fees after students voted in favor of the proposal 50% to 34%. The final referendum proposal was changes to the Student Constitution which passed with an 82% to 18% vote.
