MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Democratic businessman Jim Graves has conceded to GOP U.S. Rep. and tea party favorite Michele Bachmann in Minnesota's tight 6th District race.
Graves says he called Bachmann on Wednesday morning to congratulate her on her victory. He says he wishes Bachmann and her family the very best.
Bachmann said in Twitter post it was a hard-fought campaign, and she's ready to get back to work for her district. Graves sought to persuade voters to choose a successful businessman rather than Bachmann and her controversial national profile.
Bachmann hung on to a district that became more Republican through redistricting, but her margin of victory was just over 4,200 votes.
The race was hugely expensive as Bachmann fell back on a fundraising machine that drew from her national following.
According to the Minnesota Secretary of State Office, Bachmann won with 50% of the vote with Graves having 49% of the vote. Broken down that is Bachmann with 179,653 votes and Graves at 175,716 of the votes.
