Archived: Black Bear Shot In Albertville After Homeowner Feared For Family’s Safety

A black bear has been shot near a home after the owner feared for his family’s safety.

Wright County Sheriff Joe Hagerty says deputies were called out to the 10000 block of 64th Street NE in Albertville Tuesday evening after people had seen a black bear in their backyard.

The bear had apparently had gone up to the homeowners sliding glass door. Sheriff Hagerty says deputies later found the bear in the 10000 block of Karston Avenue NE, a short distance from the original call.

The second homeowner said his daughter was playing in the backyard when he saw the bear come out of the woods. The homeowner went inside, grabbed his hunting rifle, and shot at the bear.

Police later heard a gunshot and saw the bear run off to the woods. They found the bear dead a short while later.

The Minnesota DNR and the Wright County Sheriff’s office have closed the incident.
