Archived: Darlene St. Clair Presenting “Dakota People, Dakota Homelands” This Thursday

To mark the 150th anniversary of the 1862 United States Dakota War, Darlene St. Clair will present her speech “Dakota People, Dakota Homelands” this Thursday.

St. Clair is a SCSU associate professor of learning resources and former director of the Multicultural Resource Center. She is now serving as a visiting associate professor from the University of Minnesota’s Department of American Indian Studies. The U.S. Dakota War resulted in the death or exile from Minnesota of most of the Dakota people.

Today, more than 170,000 Dakota people live in U.S. communities and reservations. St. Clair is a member of the Lower Sioux Indian Community and is in one of the Dakota tribal divisions that were living in Minnesota during the Dakota War. St. Clair’s presentation is a part of the Multicultural Resource Center lecture series.
