New Ordinance Allows Chicken In Certain Residential Areas
04/26/2013 - 9:15 AM
Residents in Stearns County are now able to own chickens. On Tuesday morning, the Board of Commissioner voted to change the County’s Land and Zoning Ordinance to allow for chickens in the R-1 and R-5 residential districts.
This means for residents in the R-1 District, up to 12 chickens will be allowed. In the R-15 district, up to 15 chickens per 1 acre will be allowed. All chickens in these districts must be confined with a coop or a fence and be set back ten feet from all property lines.
The chickens will be allowed as a provisional use, meaning the birds must be registered with the Stearns County Environmental Service Department.
