Simulated Nuclear Emergency At Monticello Plant Tuesday
06/10/2013 - 3:45 AM
The Minnesota Department of Public Safety and other state agencies will take part in a simulated nuclear emergency Tuesday at the Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant.
The Department of Public Safety says the simulated incident will help emergency responders be prepared in the unlikely event of a nuclear emergency at the plant.
Julie Anderson of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety says the exact time for the simulation to begin is unknown. The unknown start time is aimed to make the simulation as realistic as possible. However, in past years it has begun around 8 a.m. Anderson says the simulation will last four to five hours.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Minnesota departments of Agriculture, Health and Human Services, Natural Resources and Transportation will also respond to the simulation.
