St. Cloud Man Assaulted

St. Cloud Police say a 40-year-old assault suspect is being held in the Stearns County Jail. Early Sunday morning, police responded to an assault complaint on the 700 block of 7th Avenue South. Police say a 57-year-old victim from St. Cloud had been strangled, punched, shoved into a parked car, and thrown on the ground by 40-year-old Sauk Rapids man, James Avery. Police say while strangling the suspect, Avery also made threatening statements to the victim. Avery was arrested and brought to the Stearns County Jail on charges of strangulation, terroristic threats and domestic assault.
