Archived: State Representative Steve Gottwalt Resigns

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) – State Rep. Steve Gottwalt of St. Cloud says he is resigning his House seat after taking a job with a company that lobbies the Minnesota Legislature.

Gottwalt told House members in a letter Thursday that he is resigning his seat before the end of January.

Earlier, the Star Tribune reported that Gottwalt, a Republican who was just elected to his fourth term, would stay in the Legislature.

In his letter, Gottwalt said his new job as state legislative director for the Center for Diagnostic Imaging is "more than a full-time job" and would not give him the time he needs to represent his constituents.

Both parties now have departing House members. Democratic state Rep. Terry Morrow announced last month he’s resigning his St. Peter-area seat for a new job.
