Two Men Survive Fiery Crash Near Melrose Tuesday Morning

The Stearns County Sheriff’s office, Melrose Fire and Rescue, and Melrose Ambulance were called to a fiery crash at an intersection north of Melrose.

Stearns County Sheriff Don Gudmundson said that first responders were called to a collision at the intersection of County Road 13 and County Road 17.

Forty-four-year old Michael Charpenter of Little falls was driving a International semi-tractor westbound on County Road 17 after stopping at the stop sign. Meanwhile, 31-year-old Mitchell Lorentz of Miltona was driving his van southbound on County Road 13 and simultaneously struck the semi-tractor at the intersection.

Both vehicles started on fire and both drivers escaped before being burned. They were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The accident is under investigation by the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota State Patrol.
