Archived: Clark: “Tidal Wave too Much to Overcome”

Less than 24 hours after being defeated by incumbent republican Michele Bachmann, the democratic candidate for Minnesota’s 6th district thanked her supporters for being a part of an amazing campaign.

In what was by far the most expensive congressional race in our nation’s history, Michele Bachmann defeated Tarryl Clark by 52% 40% of the vote. Clark, who conceded to Bachmann late Tuesday night, sent an email sent Wednesday night to friends and supporters.

“What we thought would be a strong headwind turned out to be a tidal wave, and it was too much to overcome this time. Congresswoman Bachmann spent nearly $10 million dollars in October to defeat us. She spent more than anyone has in a race for Congress in history, a great majority of it from outside our state, let alone our district. That meant that rather than serving as a referendum on our Member of Congress, this election became a referendum on the state of our economy, our country and on Washington itself," said Clark.

Ranging from St. Cloud to the northeast Twin Cities suburbs, the sixth congressional district is commonly referred to as Minnesota’s most conservative district. Clark says she will continue to advocate for people in the 6th District.
