  1. When did you get involved with 88.1 FM?

I’ve been listening to KVSC for years, but I started DJ training in January, 2010.

  1. What show(s) do you currently host on KVSC and what programs have you hosted in the past?)

I currently host the Morning Show Pt 1 on Fridays. I’ve also filled in a few times on the Granite City Rock Café and a couple other morning shows.

  1. Please list some of the artists and musicians you consider to be a must play on your show(s)?

Stuff like Arcade Fire, My Morning Jacket, The Flaming Lips, Neko Case, Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros, Mercury Rev. I like to throw in some old stuff too like Country Joe McDonald, Wishbone Ash, Pink Floyd or maybe some John Prine. I’m a little limited on the morning show since we don’t get to really turn it loose at 6:00 in the morning. I’d like to play a little more Built To Spill or King Crimson-like stuff, but I guess we need to wake people gently. It can be a challenge to find quiet Black Sabbath tunes.

  1. Why are you involved with independent community radio at 88.1 FM?

It was kind of a lark. I lost my full-time job, although I still work part-time. I know Dr. Beard, who was the training director at KVSC at the time, pretty well; and he suggested I give it a try. It is a blast getting to play and hear some of the crazy music KVSC has.

  1. What is in your personal CD player, iPod, or mp3 right now (BE HONEST)?

Band of Horses – Cease to Begin

  1. Please disclose the most embarrassing music moment or concert you’ve attended or album you’ve bought (perhaps even shameful)

Probably the 10 or 15 seconds of dead air on one of my first shows that seemed to last for 3 hours and 16 minutes. Or maybe my complete and utter failure at remembering or even reading “Good News For People Who Love Bad News.”

  1. What are your hobbies and interests?

I like camping, canoeing and cross country skiing. I read a lot.

  1. When you are not at work or KVSC, where can you most likely be found?

At home looking for work or cooking and cleaning.

  1. If it were the end of the world and you could only take five things with you, what would they be (BE HONEST)?

If it were the end of the world, I wouldn’t need much and I wouldn’t need it for long. My wife, my favorite tunes on a huge ghetto blaster with great speakers, a bottle of Gentleman Jack, a nice bottle of wine for my wife, and an exquisite last meal.

  1. What do you think is the future of radio?

I think people will continue listening to the radio to keep up on what’s new with music. You can’t buy or download everything out there to see what you’ll like.
