The Sheriff’s department is reporting that 875 pounds have already been dropped off in the first six months of the program. A drop box was installed in May at the Law Enforcement Center located at 807 Courthouse Square in St. Cloud.

 

The county has now installed medication drop boxes at the Paynesville and Melrose Police Departments.

 

The cooperative effort between the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office and the Environmental Services Department collects the unused medications in an effort to reduce the amount being disposed in landfills and eventually into ground water. They also say the program helps prevent medications from getting into the wrong hands.
