Archived: Three Rescued In Sauk River Capsized Canoe

Three young men are lucky to be alive today after their canoe capsized on the Sauk River. It happened Wednesday afternoon just south of the County Road 139 bridge in Rockville. When police and rescue officials got to the scene they found the men sitting on a tree in the river.

In a sheriff’s department report, the three said the fast current pushed their canoe into a tree. They had been waiting about 90 minutes until they were discovered. The young men had life vests, but two vests washed away in the current because they were unzipped.

Firefighters were able to get to the men by boat. Treated and released at the scene were 18 year old Andre Daniel Fiereck of St. Cloud, 16 year old Timothy Noah Paggen, also of St. Cloud and 19 year old Joshua James Anderson of Clearwater.
The sheriff’s office says the current is very strong in the Sauk River and canoeing is not advised.
