Margaret Atwood Interview on KVSC Tuesday & Wednesday

Facebook Twitter

11/23/2015 - 4:00 PM

KVSC is honored to present an interview with Booker Prize winning, Canadian speculative fiction author Margaret Atwood. Ms. Atwood spent an hour with KVSC on November 19.

The first segment will be broadcast on Tuesday, November 24 from 12:30-1 p.m. during the Newswatch program. In part one, Ms. Atwood discusses the big themes of Oryx and Crake (moral controversies, scientific manipulation of species, loss of art and culture) as well as the key characters. We also learn about HBO’s production of her trilogy produced by Darren Aronofsky who directed Black Swan and recently the film Noah, the Future Library Project, victimless leather and so much more.

The second part of the interview will air on Wednesday, November 25 from 12:30-1 p.m. In part two, Ms. Atwood goes into detail about her invention called the long pen, which can be compared to “beam me up Scotty” of writing—now used in banking worldwide as well as writing tips for students, the creative use of our brains, why writing is a vocation, not a profession, and genetically modified salmon (which was just approved by the FDA).

KVSC thanks professor Christine Metzo, Director of Initiatives for University College for making this magic happen as part of the Common Read program at St. Cloud State University. Also, first-year students Kelsey Seiler and Megan Hetterick  are part of the interview.

A Special Evening with Keri Noble and Collective Unconscious

A Special Evening with Keri Noble and Collective Unconscious

A piano-driven singer and songwriter and a transplant from Detroit to Minneapolis, Keri Noble is coming to the Historic Pioneer Place on Fifth Theatre on Wednesday, December 2, at 7:30 p.m. for Granite City Radio Theatre. The all ages show tickets are available online here.

After growing up in an environment where secular music was not readily available, Noble was inspired, like so many, by Joni Mitchell’s historic album Blue, to find her own voice in songwriting. Keri gained the attention of the world-famous producer, Arif Mardin, and a recording deal with EMI/Manhattan Records soon followed.

Her latest album "Softer Place to Land" was released November of 2013.

Join us for a night filled with radio drama, including a new episode of Shades Brigade, the delectable music of Collective Unconscious, comedy sketches to tickle your central Minnesota funny bone...and the return of the live trivia challenge with Dan Barth!

This episode of Granite City Radio Theatre brought to you by KVSC 88.1FM and is funded by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Legacy grant and KVSC.

We hope to see you in the audience for a fantastic show!
